Sandra T. Blackwell is the dedicated publisher behind The Westchester County Press, a prominent weekly newspaper serving the African American community in Westchester County, New York. With a passion for community engagement and storytelling, Sandra has been an integral part of The Westchester County Press since 1986, initially serving as a devoted volunteer for 23 years.
In January 2009, Sandra assumed the role of owner and publisher of The Westchester County Press, stepping into the leadership position after the unexpected passing of Publisher M. Paul Redd. Drawing upon her extensive experience and unwavering commitment to uplifting her community, Sandra embraced her new role with determination and vision.
Prior to her tenure with The Westchester County Press, Sandra dedicated 39 years of her life to educating and empowering others as a special education teacher. Her retirement in 2005 marked the beginning of a new chapter, allowing her to channel her energy into gathering positive news and amplifying the voices of the African American community through the pages of the newspaper. Under Sandra's guidance, The Westchester County Press has flourished as one of the 220 newspapers holding membership in the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA). With a circulation of 5,000 copies distributed weekly, the newspaper serves as a vital platform for sharing local, state, and national news stories, accomplishments, and concerns relevant to the African American community.
Driven by her unwavering dedication to preserving and promoting African American narratives, Sandra Blackwell continues to lead The Westchester County Press with integrity, passion, and a deep commitment to serving her community.
